Improving Root Flush

Persist PAF strengthens critical functions during root flush, setting the stage for next season’s success.

Energize Roots.

Persist PAF has been shown to stimulate root initiation and elongation. During root flush, this can accelerate fine root formation, enhancing water and nutrient absorption capacity.

Broccoli Nursery Trial: Holden Research and Consulting (California)

    • 63% increase in average root weight.

Celery Nursery Trial: Holden Research and Consulting (California)

    • 72% increase in new root growth.

Boost Microbes.

The organic acids and polyphenols in PAF promote beneficial microbial activity in the rhizosphere. These microbes play a crucial role in nutrient cycling and can increase the bioavailability of NPK and micronutrients—especially valuable during active root growth.

Hydroponics Microbial Study: Wageningen University & Research

    • PAF generated a greater than 10-fold increase in beneficial bacteria, both in the growing media and tomato rhizosphere.
    • PAF treatments supported strong populations of key bacterial groups, including Nitrospirae and Firmicutes, which were nearly absent in the untreated controls.

Release Nutrients.

Persist PAF contains lightweight organic acids that help mobilize nutrients already present in the soil. During root flush, trees demand more nutrients for new root and shoot development, and PAF supports this uptake without the need for increased fertilization.

Bell Pepper Production Trial: Holden Research and Consulting (California)

    • Plant tissue sampling showed PAF-treated plants had a remarkably higher nutrient uptake, including 22% greater nitrogen (N), 9% more phosphorus (P), and 42% higher levels of potassium (K), as well as increased uptake of micronutrients.
    • End-of-season soil analysis showed significantly higher retained nitrate nitrogen in the treated plots.

Fortify Defenses.

Root flush often coincides with seasonal transitions when plants are vulnerable to stress. The polyphenols and organic acids in PAF boost plants’ resistance to reduce stress under fluctuating conditions.

From the research …

    • ” … a low dose of acetic acid significantly increased plant survival after 3–4 weeks of water withholding.” <source>
    • “… the biosynthesis of phenolic compounds in plants during abiotic and biotic stress increases adaptation of plants in harsh environments.” <source>
    • “… the exudation of organic acids at the root–soil interface can improve soil mineral acquisition and toxic metal tolerance.” <source>
    • “… application of pyroligneous acid resulted in increased growth when applied alone and in different combinations with other inputs.”<source>
    • “… roots from wheat seeds presoaked with pyroligneous acid can initiate an early defense mechanism to mitigate drought stress.” <source>
